I was just wondering how long it usually takes for orders from the site. I ordered a Jason Webley album on vinyl, and was wondering if most orders take a week or so if you don't choose priority shipping.

Avi Goes to College [31 Jan 2005|01:07am]

Hey Gang, this was posted to the Springman website a few days ago...

Dear Friends,

I have a pretty major Springman Records announcements to make:

Being twenty-two years old, I decided it was time to go back and finish my last two years of college. I'll be starting full time this upcoming fall, and it looks like Kim and Mike will be as well.

This record label will not be folding, but we are taking a break from new signings, and cutting back dramatically on new releases. This is so we can fulfill the commitment we have to our current roster by focusing 100% of our record-label energy on the bands and releases we have, to make sure they continue getting all the attention they deserve and then some.

It actually looks like we will be able to do more for our bands while in school than we are now (thanks to new relationships with distributors, booking agents, publicists, etc, plus all the mistakes we have recently learned from), but knowing that this won’t be my 24/7/365 job as it has been for the past seven years, I don't think it would be ethical to sign new bands right now, at least until I get into the flow of things and know exactly how much time and energy I have to put into them.

We will be releasing some very limited-edition vinyl from some of our favorite bands in the world, more news on that later. And we are working on a Pogues cover record (that won't suck) for next year.

Thank you to everyone for all the support, but this isn't a eulogy, we aren't going anywhere. We have new releases planned, just not very many.

Avi Ehrlich
Label owner, Springman Records

P.S. To any record label owners reading this, here is a tip sheet! If we were signing new bands, our wish list would include (in alphabetical order): Astronautalis, The Brilliant Red Lights, Desa, Full Moon Partisans, Gogol Bordello, Her Space Holiday, Lil Pocket Knife, Lucero, The Rx Bandits, Shinobu, The Teenage Harlots, and Tera Melos.

Dear Avi & the Springman gang,

I just received my belated Punk Rock Holocaust DVD. I wasn't getting too worried about it not arriving, though. For one thing, I wasn't sure if I addressed it to my house since I dont think I'd memorized my new dorm address yet by that time. Anyway, shit happens with mail, so I just accounted it to that. Then I read your personal letter explaining what happened.

I'm not big on wearing/promoting labels and brands, but I bought your t-shirt at Warped and proudly wear it and display its message. Now you've given me a real story to tell. You're awesome, and I can tell you really appreciate the fans. And I've gotta let you know how much I appreciate that.

I was just looking at the game board to put Monopoly pieces on that you get at McDonald's. You can win an MP3 player and the song that's listed on it as an example is The Phenomenauts' "The Year 2000". I thought that was pretty awesome.

Here's a scan of it!

Emergency! [12 Jul 2004|01:27pm]

UPDATE: (7/14) Senate failed to pass this revolting amendment with 48 in favor of and 50 against. Over 500,000 people signed the online petition, so thank you very much. Woo hoo!
I know this isn't Springman related, but it is crazy important.
Everyone has the same rights. There is no place in America for a Constitutional amendment denying marriage equality to anyone. But in less than 48 hours the senate is going to be voting on the Federal Marriage Amendment Act trying to make marriage in same-sex couples illegal. This is repulsive and we must unite against it. Please go the below address to read more and sign the petition.
After this is done, please, please, please, post this anywhere you can for people to read and/or forward it in e-mails. This is only getting around by word of mouth. It's all on us now.
